Play is universal; it is an essential part of growing up. Through
play children hasten their own development while they learn about
the world around them.
Toys are vital to your child’s development. Play is children’s
work and toys are their tools.
At the Australian Toy Association, we believe that every child
has the right to play. Play is an essential part of learning and
growing.
Why Play is Important
Play is the way children learn. Children with access to a wide
range of well-selected toys are more likely to be challenged and
stimulated. Studies find that they reach higher levels of intellectual
development, regardless of their sex, race or social class.
Toys that stimulate mental development:
- • are appropriate for the child's abilities,
- • are responsive to the child's movements, and
- • provide feedback when manipulated.
Whether playing alone or with others, quietly or with enthusiasm,
play is the way children explore their world and create imaginary
ones.
Active Play is Important for a Child's Health
Children’s obesity is becoming a major health issue for the
Australian population. To combat this and promote active lifestyles
for children, the Australian Toy Association is driving a new program
to inspire healthy living via encouraging parents and guardians
to take the time to teach their children the value of play. The Value of Play Program focuses around being physically active,
having fun playing with toys and using creative imaginations. The
intention of the program is to ensure that fun and play continues
to be a major part of a child’s spare time. |
